Gradually, through many generations, the world has come to the point where technology works with artificial intelligence. Meanwhile, the use of social networks is becoming popular all over the world. In a country like Sri Lanka, it has become essential for us to know how to use social media safely and securely.

So we thought we’d share how I know how to use social media safely.

    Enable two-factor authentication

2FA is an additional security layer in your social media account. Even if your username and password are breached, if this is enabled, your account is safe. When you log in, an OTP (one-time passcode) will be sent to your email or phone number. If you give it, you can log in.

    Use a strong password

You should use a strong password with a mix of symbols, numbers, capital letters, and simple letters. Many people use passwords like their name, birthday, girl’s name, village, or school name. Most of the time, they can be guessed and broken.

    Change the password recently

The password you use is like a toothbrush. You have to change it every two to three months. Remember, if you change your password, don’t forget to say “Logout from other devices”.

    Be careful with third-party apps

Get your email and password to sign up or log in to their apps or websites. So some of these apps are trying to steal your information. Most of the time, you are the one who gives those details to those apps. They use things like keyloggers to get your data (often they do this with cracked software and mod apks). So think twice before you log into any other app or website with your email. (Tip: Keep a separate email for them.)

    Beware of Phishing Links

Some people have mentioned their email in their bios and about. So a hacker can target this email, create phishing pages, and send it to that email. So, there are many phishing pages today. When you click on the link, be careful about the link in the address bar of the browser. Most of the time, it shows as not secure.

Okay, we hope you now know how to use social media safely. Comment below with any other methods you know.
